People often ask: "where do you get your inspiration for paintings?" Well... I love walking outside in fields and gardens. That's when I clip plants and flowers that are finished with their sweet little lives. The drying petals, leaves and seeds add unexpected drama to the lines and shapes when I paint their portraits. The orange painting on the left has a dried sunflower laying on it. The blue painting on the right is my version of that sunflower. Another answer is that I love winter! The leaves and shrubs are mostly gone and you can see the bones of the trees. This is when their personality really shows through. That's what I like to capture. This photo is special because it was taken while learning how to X-country Skate Ski in Wisconsin. Enjoying nature, breathing the fresh air, hearing the sounds of ski on snow, watching the sunset change all the colors...Who wouldn't be inspired? This will be my next painting... I'm inspired by so many things... beautiful music, intense colors, thoughtful stories, white wine (ha) ...I'm really inspired when someone connects with me or my work. That's the sunny spot in my day.
